Greeting posters
2006-2026
At the end of 2005, for the transition to 2006, I designed a poster for my greeting card around the idea of transition, evolution, and transformation of the number that marks the year, the unit. Letting the previous and the next show through, this vertical poster (a real poster is vertical—period!) uses the numbers 5 and 6 from the Transfer typeface designed by Rodrigo Xavier Cavazos and Julien Janiszewski. Analogy, anamorphosis, and substitution—these three fundamental principles of graphic image construction and meaning are used here.
I wanted to continue this exploration for the transition from 2006 to 2007, still in red, my favorite color, curious to see where this approach could take me—when the unknown stimulates. And then I continued, year after year, giving birth to a series.
In 2010, I had to introduce the tens digit. How to do this in a vertical format? Solution, as could be seen on street walls: two posters pasted side by side. After a first decade, to avoid repeating myself, I introduced a transition in typeface style with Bodoni by Giambattista Bodoni, modernized by Alexander Tarbeev. Then a new introduction in 2025: the Puffin typeface by Pieter van Rosmalen.
In 2026, I've been pursuing this transformation for 20 years... Strange relationship with time: 21 images, 20 years. Will I be able to renew myself and maintain enough interest? When will I stop? Perhaps you, viewers, will be the only ones to know?
